Tau Scientific Instruments LLC was founded in 2019 by Dr. Christopher Fang-Yen and Dr. Anthony D. Fouad, two researchers at the University of Pennsylvania. Our goal is to develop and market innovative biological research technologies. We are developing a number of new products, with an initial focus on tools for C. elegans research. If you would like to receive occasional emails about our new product offerings, or have any questions or comments, please email us at info@tausci.com.
Christopher Fang-Yen, Ph. D.
Co-founder

Dr. Fang-Yen is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Associate Professor of Neuroscience at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his Ph. D. in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2002. His current research interests include neural circuits and behavior, the biology of aging, and technology development.

Anthony D. Fouad, Ph. D.
Co-founder

Anthony earned his Ph.D. in Bioengineering in 2018 from the University of Pennsylvania. During his thesis research, which was supervised by Dr. Fang-Yen, Anthony probed the nature of rhythm generation in the C. elegans motor circuit, and demonstrated that multiple rhythmogenic subcircuits exist along the ventral nerve cord (Fouad et al 2018) Key to this discovery was a custom-built, closed-loop optical system capable of delivering precisely targeted optogenetic stimulation to freely moving C. elegans. Since graduation, Anthony has pursued robotics and automation of life sciences research.
